Delightful Design

Betty wanted an island unit to be the focus of her new kitchen in Cork. What Celtic Interiors have designed is a bright and stylish space which ticks all the boxes.

My previous kitchen was cream with granite surfaces,’ explains Betty. ‘It was designed in a U-shape and was not particularly inspired! My new kitchen is situated in an extension and the old kitchen is now the utility space. I’m an enthusiastic cook and had very clear ideas about the kitchen I wanted so when I went to Celtic Interiors showroom, I saw an island unit which I adapted for my home and built my kitchen around. I was very impressed with their showroom in general and knew they would be perfect for bringing my new kitchen to life.’

As well as the island being the central focus in her new kitchen, Betty wanted a high standard of cabinetry with a solid wood internal carcass. She also wanted some glass fretted frames and all the doors to be in-framed. Another feature that was important was that a simple over mantel would be designed to go above the AGA. ‘I had always wanted an AGA and had fond memories of my mother, Elmar cooking for us as kids,’ she adds. Other items that Betty wanted to be included were a double pantry unit and retro Smeg fridge.
