From Belfast to the Costa Blanca
Belfast-born designer Megan Murray brings an Irish instinct for warmth to this colourful beachfront home in Cabo Roig, balancing Mediterranean light, bold pattern and practical year-round living.
There is an Irish thread running quietly through Project Cala, despite its Mediterranean setting. The 340sq m home sits frontline to the beach in Cabo Roig on Spain’s Costa Blanca, but its designer, Megan Murray of House of Murray, traces her own story back to Belfast. ‘I’m originally from Belfast, although Spain has been home for most of my life. I moved from Ireland to the Costa Blanca with my parents, Mark and Nikki, when I was just four years old.’ Growing up between those influences has had a lasting impact on Megan’s approach to interiors. ‘I’ve always loved that cosy Irish approach to interiors – homes that feel warm, layered and lived in – but growing up in Spain naturally gave me this completely different Mediterranean influence too. I think the mix of those two worlds has really shaped the way I design today. I love warmth and character, but I also love natural materials, sunlight, texture and that more relaxed Mediterranean way of living.’Read more in the November issue…
