A Contemporary Edge

Geraldine, Michael, and their two children Tara and Natasha needed a stylish and contemporary design for their newly renovated Newry home. Parkes Interiors have created a stunning and sleek design that ticks all the boxes.

Our previous kitchen was a traditional chestnut wooden style,’ recalls Geraldine. ‘We decided to renovate our home in a more contemporary style, so we needed to update our kitchen too.’ With this in mind, Geraldine began to search for the kitchen company that was going to transform their space. ‘We visited quite a few kitchen companies and decided that Brian Parkes from Parkes Interiors was someone we felt that we could collaborate with.’

The couple told Brian their design brief. ‘We were very precise about our requirements and the kitchen plans needed to be reworked several times before we reached the finished design. We knew we wanted an open-plan inclusive kitchen with a very large island incorporating a seating area.’

Various structural changes were made to accommodate the new design. ‘We removed two windows from behind the sink area and a wall was removed from the adjoining sunroom to provide a view to the garden. We didn’t want free standing units and hence our builders had to provide stud walling to accommodate the units we chose.’
