A Family Connection

Embracing biophilic design combined with bold colour gives this home a unique look that’s easy on the eye and functions perfectly for a busy family of four.

Searching for a fixer-upper in a particular location can take time, indeed Nik Dillon and Adam Gallacher, who both run a brand agency, Alkamee, discovered this after viewing thirty-six homes in their quest to find their forever home in their ideal location. ‘We had been living in north county Dublin for twelve years, I had a long held dream of relocating back to where I grew up, a southside Dublin suburb, in a community I knew, that would be fun and full of opportunity for our boys Calum and Jamie,’ says Nik. The couple had whittled their search down to two houses, one fell through, and the one they now call home. The house was built in 1964. It is a traditional semi and still had its traditional layout when the couple purchased it in August 2019. ‘There was a tiny kitchen and a separate dining room and living rooms downstairs. There were three bedrooms and one toilet upstairs which was separate from a small bathroom,’ says Nik, who could instantly see the potential, particularly considering the house had a sixty foot garden and offered the couple the opportunity to extend in the future. ‘I remember viewing it and literally being mesmerised by the incredible unspoilt rear view and when I discovered my grandfather and father had built it I knew it had to be ours,’ says Nik.
