Glad Tidings

Full of comfort and joy, David and Carol’s home shines bright in the festive season.

Christmas in David and Carol’s Rathfarnham home is always magical. The banisters are embellished with foliage and the house is beautifully adorned with a host of decorations and flickering candles. ‘We bought this house in 1997, it was a new build on a small development of a hundred houses. At the time it suited the needs for the family and it was in our ideal location,’ says Carol. Over the years the couple have added to it with a loft conversion and a kitchen extension. We were very aware we needed a bigger kitchen/dining space as we love to entertain so we wanted a really social space particularly for Christmas. The kitchen area really didn’t function for us, particularly when our two sons come home from abroad and all the family descend upon us, we definitely needed more space,’ explains Carol, who took her time to carefully plan out what she wanted for the new space. ‘For a couple of years prior to the project I spent a lot of time on Pinterest bookmarking kitchens that really caught my eye. I seemed to be drawn to the white Hamptons style of kitchen so the room has that kind of feel. All the units are painted in Oxford Stone by Farrow & Ball. They were made bespoke by a local cabinet maker we had known for years,’ explains Carol.
