Modern Connections

By adding two modern extensions to this old structure, its owner has transformed this 1940s cottage into a unique and stylish home.

Spotting this site back in 2002, the owner of this Galway property was immediately smitten by the idyllic location and wonderful views of the surrounding landscape. ‘I purchased the site with the intention of knocking down the existing cottage and building from scratch, but due to the location of the site, within a restrictive scenic amenity, stringent planning restrictions dictated that the original house had to been kept, despite its clear lack of architectural value. I had to come up with an innovative idea to modernised and extend to give me the modern and functional home that I was after,’ explains the owner.

Architects Ryan W. Kennihan were given the task of creating a modernist inspired home that would allow as much natural light into the house and capture the panoramic views, cleverly incorporating modern additions while keeping the old structure.
