The Folks on the Hill

Rosemary had always loved the old cottage which overlooked the Fermanagh Lakelands so when she had the chance to buy it not even the challenges of restoring a listed building could stop her.

Located in Fivemiletown on the County Fermanagh/Tyrone border, this stone built one and a half storey cottage dating from 1860, neighbouring the Colebrooke Estate, home to Lord and Lady Brookeborough, is a second home for Rosemary and Harold and their children Rosanna (23), Alexandra (19), Nicholas (14), their dogs Penny and Summer, and Holly the cat.

There has always been something lyrically evocative about ‘the folks who live on the hill’ – just ask the songwriters. So when mum of three Rosemary had the opportunity by buy into the romantic idyll in 2005, she jumped at the chance. ‘We’ve always loved this corner of Northern Ireland on the border of the Co Fermanagh and Tyrone. It’s beautifully rural with particularly picturesque countryside and we’d passed this cottage, The Brooke, many times on our way to the Fermanagh Lakelands.
