For some people the temptation to overindulge during the Christmas period results in the desire to reset and start the new year afresh with a little health kick or rejuvination of the mind.

Get outside

The new year is the ideal time to try something new, and what better activity to try in January than an early morning surf on the beaches of Donegal, the surf capital of Ireland. For total beginners there is a number of beginners classes available from qualified and insured instructors. A few days stay on the Atlantic coast combined with a few hours surfing is the ideal way to wash away the cobwebs of 2017 and welcome in 2018.

If the need for an adrenaline rush doesn’t stretch to being battered by the Atlantic Ocean, the next best thing may be a spot of mountain biking. While there are trails throughout Ireland, some of the best are the Rostrevor Mountain Bike Trails on the shores of Carlingford Lough. There is a variety of trails catering to all abilities and disciplines and bike hire is available so there is no real excuse not to give it a try.
