Charlotte and John took their time turning this once derelict coach house in Dalkey into an open plan light filled modern stylish home.

Back in 2005 when Charlotte and John bought their family home, in Dublin, the main house came with the added bonus of having a coach house on the site. ‘We could see the development potential of the coach house, and the potential rental value for us further down the line. Having renovated many properties over the years we were not adverse to a bit of hard work and were excited at the prospect of transforming this property into a habitable state,’ says Charlotte.

The two storey coach house, situated to the rear of the main house, was completely derelict with no services. It was damp and the roof and windows needed replacing. The couple decided to do the work in two stages. ‘The first stage was making the building watertight. We knew we wouldn’t be embarking on the complete renovation straight away as we needed to do work on the main house.
