Simple Elegance
This elegant family home has been sympathetically renovated within a mature setting and now takes full advantage of the beautiful views overlooking Belfast Lough. When Isabella and Michael from Bangor bought this original 1930s home, it was in need of extensive refurbishment. ‘The house had small rooms, and a basement that you could only access from outside,’ comments Isabella. ‘The back of the house has lovely sea views and the bathroom with opaque windows had the prime spot to enjoy the views! The original layout didn’t work for us, so it became a blank canvas for us essentially.’
Isabella and Michael had a very clear vision for what they wanted from their new home? ‘We wanted to avail of open-plan living for the family and to entertain friends, a basement for the children to have some space, a garden with plenty of room to kick a football and we wanted to have plenty of light and make the most of the beautiful views over Belfast Lough,’ says Isabella. ‘We also wanted large bedrooms with plenty of storage and laundry space upstairs was a must! Having built our previous home, we had a clear idea of how we wanted to live.’
