Victorian Celebration

Giuseppe and Daniele sympathetically restored a dilapidated Victorian terrace to create an elegant and characterful home, perfect for the festive season.

Work dictated that Giuseppe and Daniele should locate to Ireland and they were determined to find something with character close to the city centre. Having previously remodeled their apartment in Milan they felt confident they could take on a restoration project so were not put off at viewing properties that needed work.

‘We spotted a house in Rathmines and the agent had arranged an open house viewing. As we came to view it we saw people just entering the hall and then literally walking away, we were fascinated.’ The house had a wealth of original features, seven fireplaces, wooden panelling, original brass knobs, locks and finger plates on all the internal doors. Despite this, the property itself was in very poor condition and needed a substantial amount of work. It hadn’t been lived in for several years, it was extremely damp, it needed rewiring, plumbing, a new kitchen and totally redecorating. But Giuseppe and Daniele were instantly smitten, not only was it in the perfect location, in a lively and vibrant part of Dublin only a short stroll from the city centre but it also had a huge amount of potential. The couple however needed to sell the apartment in Milan in order to finance the purchase, so they had to move quickly. ‘The house was obviously meant to be ours, we needed to sell the apartment in Milan in order to purchase this house.
