Our gardening columnist Conrad McCormick turns his attention indoors offering advice on caring for your houseplants.

I should start with a confession, I’ve left a trail of houseplant casualties and deaths in my wake! I start with the best of intentions but in practice my indoor plant care can leave a bit to be desired. Fussy moisture lovers that demand regular watering and high humidity aren’t for me. While I do try to take good care of them, life can often get in the way, so they must be able to withstand periods of benign neglect and sporadic watering. If a plant is going to curl up and die after drying out a little it’s a non-starter – maidenhair fern I’m looking at you!
