Ihere is nothing quite like the taste and smell of freshly cut herbs. They are easy to cultivate and can grow in the smallest of spaces in a garden, even in a window box writes Deirdre Prince.

It is probably one of the most rewarding gardening experiences to be able to cut your own lush, green parsley or aromatic thyme and it straight into a pot of stew bubbling on the stove. Shop-bought, dried herbs bear no resemblance to the real thing.
