A Complete Edwardian Rethink

When interior designer Eilish Rickard first became involved in Westview, an Edwardian home in South Dublin, the property had already lived several lives.

Like many houses of its age, this home had been altered and extended over the years. While much of its original character remained intact, the layout no longer suited the needs of a growing family. ‘Westview is a beautiful Edwardian home in South Dublin that had been altered and extended over the years,’ says Eilish Rickard of Eilish Rickard Interiors. ‘While it retained many of its original features and character, the layout no longer worked for the needs of a busy young family with three children.’ The project became a full renovation and extension, undertaken in collaboration with architect Emmet Duggan of Emmet Duggan Architects and contractor EBU Ltd. ‘From the outset I worked closely with architect Emmet Duggan to rethink how the house functioned,’ says Eilish. ‘We spent a lot of time refining the layouts, looking not only at how the family lived day to day but also how quickly family life changes.’
