A Feeling of Home
This Dublin home has been in one family for almost a century. Homeowner and PR specialist Niamh O’Carroll talks us through its most recent renovation, one that is all about feeling, preservation and introducing modern living in what is a considered marriage of old and new.
There are houses that evolve with their families, and there are houses that hold them. For Paul O’Sullivan and Niamh O’Carroll, their Glasnevin home does both. Built in 1928, the red brick semi detached Alexander Strain house has remained within the same family for generations. ‘This house has been connected to our family for almost 100 years,’ begins Niamh. ‘My grandfather bought it in 1928, my dad grew up here with his brother and sister. It was rented out from the 1960s to the late 1990s when Paul and I bought it from my uncle. When we got the deeds, we realised we were buying it on the same day exactly 70 years after my grandfather had signed for it as a new build. So it was meant to be.’Read more in the April issue…
