June 2015 – Issue 240

This issue we’re taking a closer look at the hub of the home – the kitchen – in our 24-page Kitchen Special we offer plenty of advice and expert tips from some of Ireland’s finest kitchen designers and retailers. From the initial planning and design stage to furnishing and decorating your finished space there are lots of inspirational ideas to help you achieve the kitchen that reflects your practical and lifestyle needs.

Often added to the kitchen/living area to offer extended living space and lead out into the garden, a conservatory is worth considering. There are numerous design options and if well thought out and finished your conservatory can be enjoyed for relaxing and/or dining all year round. Moving on to our readers’ homes and after a long search, artist Brenda Harris and her husband David visited a beautiful and picturesque site in the beautiful, unspoiled seaside resort of Ardmore on the Waterford/Cork borders and they immediately knew that this was where they wanted their new home to be.

On the Kildare/Laois border, Aidan and Susan have successfully managed to achieve an easy harmony between the architecture and the interiors of their modern, architecturally designed bungalow which is situated off a quiet country lane near Monastereven. Returning to Northern Ireland from Scotland, Zoe decided to purchase her first home in Antrim where she had grown up and had family and friends close by. Having spent time looking for her ideal home she fell for a new build in the area.

Our reader’s kitchen can be found in Pearl and Allen’s Cavan home. The couple got Parkes Interiors in Belfast to create a bright and airy kitchen design that maximised the light and space of their open-plan kitchen.

For those of you who love spending time cooking in your kitchen, we have recipes for you to try from Head Chef Ben Arnold of Home restaurant who is appearing on this series of the BBC’s Great British Menu. There is also the opportunity to win a meal prepared by Ben and his team so you can sample their culinary skills firsthand!

Travel this month will transport you to the luscious rainforest of Borneo and also offer plenty of ideas for short breaks in Ireland – whether you are looking to relax and unwind or get the adrenalin pumping with some action and adventure, this summer we’ve got it covered.
