When Emily and Max first viewed this 1960s property, all they saw was potential, but only a duo with the design background this couple possess could convert it into the sculptural and one-of-a-kind home it is today.

This Stillorgan property dates back to 1969. To the (regular) naked eye, it could’ve been seen as dated and in need of some modern TLC but Max and Emily saw beyond possibility. The large bedrooms, the generous garden and even the existing conservatory signalled opportunities to reshape the house into something unique. ‘The home itself was beautiful and did not necessarily need a huge amount of work but we always wanted to renovate our own home given the industry that we are both in, so we jumped feet first into our own home renovation.’ Both trained designers, Max in architecture and Emily in industrial product design, they share an instinct for form and function, though their tastes are not identical. ‘I definitely would not say that we both naturally share similar tastes. We have very different personalities and like different things but when we put our mood boards together for our home there was a lot of crossover.’ Earthy tones, warm timber palettes and natural materials became the common thread that shaped the entire project.
