When you think of drama in interiors, your mind might leap to bold paint colours, oversized light fittings or statement furniture. But for me, the easiest way to inject impact into a room is with plants. A well chosen plant can add scale, texture and even movement. It can soften hard architectural lines or, just as easily, create striking contrast against them. Unlike a cushion or a lampshade, it also grows and changes with the seasons, ensuring the look never feels static. There are plenty of contenders for creating indoor drama, from the sculptural to the leafy and lush. And while you do not need to have a space resembling the Palm House in the National Botanic Gardens to achieve the effect, you do need to think carefully about the size of your plants, the light levels they will enjoy and how they will work with the rest of your room.Read more in the October issue…
