Rural Charm, Modern Love

Interior designer Victoria, founder of Cotton + Ash, has transformed her own traditional-style country house in County Down into a warm and inviting family home that marries old with new.

Victoria is no stranger to reinventing properties. As the owner of Cotton + Ash, a small design studio working across Northern Ireland, she partners with local suppliers and clients to create homes that reflect the personalities of their owners. ‘Our signature style is modern rustic, combining strong timeless features with contemporary details, natural materials and layered textures to create spaces radiating warmth and character,’ she begins. It’s a style that is very much evident in her own home, Ashgrove, which she shares with her husband and daughters in the rolling countryside with the Mourne Mountains as a backdrop. She purchased the property, which was built in 2002, during the Covid pandemic when she was struck by its potential. ‘When I viewed it I could see what it could become through thoughtful design choices and a few structural changes.’ And so the journey to realise that began.
