All In A Bid

Going to an auction to bid on a house for his brother gave Ed the opportunity to move back to Wexford and a change of lifestyle.

My brother asked me to attend a property auction in Dublin, but instead of buying a home for him I bought a house that I have now made my home,’ explains Ed, who ended up bidding for a derelict cottage on a small site just outside Wexford. ‘I hadn’t even viewed the cottage and didn’t know the location, however, I was drawn to the property at the auction. I loved the idea of a project and was excited at the prospect of coming up with an innovative design that would utilise the site to its best advantage,’ says Ed. His intention was to get his friend Kevin Murphy to project manage the build and they would share the profit from the sale of the property. However during the building process, Ed decided he would love to live in the house himself. ‘I loved the area. Everyone was friendly and the house was coming together well, so I decided to move back to Wexford after 40 years,’ he explains.
