Confidence in Colour and Pattern

In Kenilworth, this period home offered something rare for designer Sorcha Harman to work with. It had a wealth of original detail already in place, providing a strong foundation to layer in character through shape, colour and some striking accents.

In many ways it was a clean slate, despite already being in very good condition, having gone through a careful restoration in recent years,’ begins designer Sorcha Harman of Porcha Design. The in tact backdrop meant Sorcha had the role of injecting personality, colour and life into the rooms here, and deliver she did. ‘The bones of the house were strong, and a lot of the original features had been really well preserved,’ she says. ‘There’s a huge amount of period detail throughout, marble fireplaces, coving, ceiling roses, original doors and ironmongery, sash windows were all intact. You could tell the previous owners had taken real care with it.’
